Removing rear tire with drum attached

Nosotros accept a CoMotion Speedster with an Arai drum restriction attached to the rear hub. We had our kickoff rear flat, and embarrassingly, can't figure out how to remove the rear bike with the drum on it. We got as far as unscrewing a cablevision in the way, merely subsequently that we're clueless. Does anyone accept whatsoever instructions for a couple of klutzes? Thank you.

Could y'all mail service a motion picture?

For the past 15 years or and then nearly bikes with Arai brakes have quick disconnects. The brake cablevision is simply held onto the brake arm by spring tension. Push the arm forward and the brake cable falls right off.

Prior to that, the restriction cable ran through a drilled out bolt and you had to release the commodities from the brake arm with a little wrench.

Slide the cable out through the slot on the brake arm. Y'all might need to push button the arm forward slightly. Open the quick release and let the bicycle (with drum attached) drop downward. As it drops out yous accept to let the wheel move forwards slightly to let the activity arm slide out of the "c" shaped holder on the chainstay.

+1 to CGinOhio's suggestion. Once you have the cable released, the whole unit of measurement will slide out of the driblet outs, keeping in mind that you will have to slide it all a tad frontwards to free the action arm. Shouldn't be necessary to loosen or disengage anything else. Follow the procedure in reverse when you're re-installing the wheel. Mike

Thanks so much. That fleck about sliding the cycle frontward makes sense; and information technology also explains why this morning, subsequently jiggling everything haphazardly in frustration, the wheel finally came off; he probably inadvertently moved information technology frontward but had no thought what he'd done. We're saving your instructions, CGinOhio & mchell.

Besides, if you lot always desire to remove the Arai drum from your hub, you can brand a cheap removal tool with a 2x3 or 2x4 piece of wood and a couple of long bolts + a few washers and nuts. Measure the space between two of the Arai removal holes on the drum, drill holes in the piece of wood to the aforementioned width, so thread the bolts into the holes.

Or, yous could buy the spiffy tool from TandemsEast (and maybe other tandem vendors) if y'all don't want the hassle of making one yourself.
